AgrowKnowledge has developed a series of Faculty Development Workshops that present the use of technology applied to agricultural education. These workshops are offered annually on a regional basis or materials may be adapted by instructors for classroom use. 

This 117-page Introduction to Data Collection workshop provides instructors with "introductory skills in GPS and GIS as applied to agriculture." Participating instructors will use GPS for data collection and GIS for displaying maps of the data. "The purpose of this workshop is to give participating instructors the hands-on experience in order to use these fundamental exercises in the classroom to teach these concepts." 

This workshop resource includes a table of contents and the following sections: Background of AgrowKnowledge Workshops, Description of Introduction to Data Collection, Prerequisite Knowledge of GPS and GIS, Lesson 1 - Collecting Waypoints, Lesson 2 - Creating a New Table, Lesson 3 - Adding Data to a GIS, Lesson 4 - Editing Data in a Table, Lesson 5 - Adding XY Data to GIS, Lesson 6 - Exporting Event Theme, Lesson 7 - Creating a Layout, Assessment Test, and Appendix  a. PowerPoints and b. Worksheets. Lessons include background information, objectives, instructor outlines, and summaries.
