Program Description:
This material was published by the Regional Center for Nuclear Education and Training (RCNET) as part of a comprehensive crosswalk that links objectives of ACAD 08-006 with GP Strategies ABC Material, NUCP Surveyed Material, NANTeL resources, EPRI resources, web resources, and published material available to all RCNET partners. These accredited utility training programs are based off training and qualification guidelines (ACADs) published by the National Academy for Nuclear Training.

ACAD 08-006 is the Uniform Curriculum Guide for Nuclear Power Plant Technician, Maintenance, and Nonlicensed Operations Personnel Associate Degree Programs and includes five main curriculum areas: Core Curriculum, Discipline-Specific Curriculum for Nonlicensed Operators, Discipline-Specific Curriculum for Radiological Protection Technicians, Discipline-Specific for Chemistry Technicians, and Discipline Specific for Maintenance Personnel.

Contents

This Power Plant Fundamentals section of Discipline-Specific Curriculum for Nonlicensed Operators (ACAD 08-006 2.1) covers the principles and  components associated with various plant systems and "provides the knowledge and skills necessary to operate and monitor systems and components for which the nonlicensed operator is responsible."

Documents associated with ACAD 08-006 2.1 include twelve PowerPoint presentations and three documents of instructor notes and curriculum information.

This material covers, more specifically: basic concepts related to accident analysis, including anticipated radiation levels, design basis accidents, descriptions, effect on workplace, evacuation criteria, recovery process mitigation, symptoms and indications, and safety limits; concepts related to transient prevention and mitigation of core damage and accident management, including core cooling mechanism, core damage, hydrogen hazards during accidents, critical parameter monitoring during accident conditions, and radiation hazards and radiation monitor response; basic calculations and concepts for condition of equilibrium, conservation of energy, factors that affect lubrication, and laws of motion, such as linear and rotational; determination of oil levels and requirements, and addition of correct oil to plan components (plant specific); and much more.

For orientation purposes Fuel Pool Cooling and Cleanup System Instructor Notes.pdf is included as a separate attachment and offers a sample of the type of material included in this curriculum.

Below is a list of the files contained within the .zip attachment. The size of each file is included in parenthesis.
