Program Description:
This material was published by the Regional Center for Nuclear Education and Training (RCNET) as part of a comprehensive crosswalk that links objectives of ACAD 08-006 with GP Strategies ABC Material, NUCP Surveyed Material, NANTeL resources, EPRI resources, web resources, and published material available to all RCNET partners. These accredited utility training programs are based off training and qualification guidelines (ACADs) published by the National Academy for Nuclear Training.

ACAD 08-006 is the Uniform Curriculum Guide for Nuclear Power Plant Technician, Maintenance, and Nonlicensed Operations Personnel Associate Degree Programs and includes five main curriculum areas: Core Curriculum, Discipline-Specific Curriculum for Nonlicensed Operators, Discipline-Specific Curriculum for Radiological Protection Technicians, Discipline-Specific for Chemistry Technicians, and Discipline Specific for Maintenance Personnel.

Contents:
This Radiological Protection Standards section of Discipline-Specific Curriculum for Chemistry Technicians (ACAD 08-006 4.14) covers "the historical development, purpose, and philosophy of radiation protections standards."

Documents associated with ACAD 08-006 4.14 include the Rad Measurements Laboratory, 11 PowerPoint presentations, and six resources that provide information about different agencies.

The 28-page Rad Measurements Laboratory Counting Instruments resource "addresses the general procedures for performing radiation calibration, calculating efficiency and calculating a plotted curve."  Six documents include information about the following agencies: American National Standards Institute, the Department of Transportation, the International Atomic Energy Agency, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the International Commission on Radiological Protection, and the National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements.

This material covers, more specifically: the function of the following regulatory and advisory organizations: the Internal Commission on Radiation Protection, the National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements, the International Commission on Radiation Protection, the National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements, the International Commission on Radiation Units and Measurements, the International Atomic Energy Agency, the American National Standards Institute, and more; the philosophy of radiation protection limits; and the following standards: 10CFR 19--Notices, Instructions, and Reports to Workers; 10CFR 20--Standards for Protection Against Radiation, 10CFR 21--Reporting of Defects and Noncompliance, 10CFR 34--Licenses for Radiography and Radiation Safety Requirements for Radiographic Operations, and more.

For orientation purposes Rad_Measurements_Laboratory_Counting_Instruments.pdf is included as a separate attachment and offers a sample of the type of material included in this curriculum.

Below is a list of the files contained within the .zip attachment. The size of each file is included in parenthesis.
