Corrosion of Welded Components in Marine Environments
This report, authored by Stuart Bond, a Senior Corrosion Technologist for The Welding Institute (TWI), provides an overview of the "issues influencing the corrosion performance of welded carbon and low alloy steels, corrosion resistant alloys and aluminium alloys" in marine environments. Bond also discusses how thermally sprayed aluminium coatings can mitigate such corrosion. Subheadings in this report include: Welded carbon steel and low allow steels in marine environments, Preferential weldment corrosion of carbon steel, Corrosion of weldments in corrosion resistant alloys, Corrosion in weldments in aluminium alloys, and Mitigation of corrosion by thermal spraying. Bond prepared this report for the Prevention and Management of Marine Corrosion, a conference held in London between April 2-3, 2003.
