Module Description:

This module was created by the Center for Nanotechnology Education (Nano-Link) and introduces students to superhydrophobicity. Science and nanoscience concepts covered during the module include molecular bonds, electron density concepts and molecular modeling, atomic and molecular structures, priorities of forces and interactions, and more. Module outcomes include: understanding cohesive and adhesive forces, comprehension of hydrophilic and hydrophobic surfaces, and dependence of interaction and observed effect on liquid and surface characteristics. 
 

Module Contents:

The module includes a lesson guide, PowerPoint, video, and a lesson standards alignment document. The 7-page lesson guide includes background information on hydrophobic and superhydrophobic surfaces, an abstract, learning outcomes, a learning activity, discussion questions, and more. The PowerPoint presentation also provides information about hydrophobic and superhydrophobic surfaces. The video includes a demonstration of the activity and runs 04:03 minutes in length. 

Versions in Spanish are included for most of the module documents.

For orientation purposes Superhydrophobicity-Module - Nano-Link.pdf is included as a separate attachment and offers a sample of the type of material included in this module.
