Emerging Automotive Technologies and Technicians

These presentation slides, published by the Center for Advanced Automotive Technology (CAAT), were presented by Nelson Kelly at the Michigan Automotive Teachers Association Conference in October 2019. The presentation addresses the following main questions:

• What are the emerging technologies in automotive technology?
• How do those technologies work?
• What are the remaining challenges?
• What new educational materials are needed for automotive technician education? 

Industry standards for electronic vehicles are discussed in great detail as well as a variety of updates to electronic safety features and the need for cybersecurity education in the automotive industry. Expected improvements resulting from these changes as well as expected challenges are also discussed.
