This 29-page resource, developed by the National Center for Optics and Photonics Education (OP-TEC), is one of four modules that cover photonics and manufacturing. This module "covers the use of lasers for industrial measurement, tracking and alignment, and metrology and inspection." The following sections are included: Introduction, Prerequisites, Objectives, Scenario, Basic Concepts, Exercises, Laboratory, and more. The included lab involves two parts. The first part has students "assemble and operate a laser angle-tracking receiver employing a silicon position sensor and measure the angular displacement of a laser mounted on a linear transistor." The second part involves "measur[ing] the diameter of a sample of wire using a diffraction method." Three other photonics and manufacturing modules are available to view separately.
