Floor Layout (Lesson 1 of 9)
Lesson Description:
This lesson is the first of nine lessons from the Vocational Math: Contextualized for Construction course that was taught at Madison Area Technical College. During this lesson, students work in groups to use addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division to determine information needed to install a floor in a home. Floor plan uses only whole numbers with missing dimensions. Whole class discussion follows up each question/set of questions.
The expected total time for this lesson is 64 minutes.
Lesson Contents:
Lesson materials include one student lesson guide, instructor guide/notes, and supporting lesson documents. These supporting documents include two student handouts (floor layout drawing, blank/no labels floor parts handout), three completed lessons from class, and a homework key.
The 5-page student lesson includes lesson objectives, definitions, problem situations, and more. Specific objectives include "use addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to determine information needed to install a floor in a home."
The 13-page instructor guide includes prerequisite assumptions, competencies covered in the lesson, a suggested timeline, and the student handout with answers.
