Lesson Description:

This lesson is the second of nine lessons from the Vocational Math: Contextualized for Construction course that was taught at Madison Area Technical College. During this lesson, students work individually and in groups to measure wood blocks cut into fractional lengths and use those measurements to find sums and differences of the materials' measurements. An introduction to utilizing the power of the Construction Master Calculator occurs during this lesson.

This expected total time for this lesson is 81 minutes.

Lesson Contents:

Lesson materials include one student lesson guide, two student handouts, instructor notes/guide, and homework key. 

The 5-page student lesson includes objectives and problem situations. The objective of this lesson is to "use addition and subtraction of fractions and accurate tape measure skills to find sums and differences of materials' measurements. 

The 11-page instructor guide includes prerequisite assumptions, competencies covered in the lesson, the student lesson guide, and answers to the problem situations. 

For orientation purposes the Lesson-2-Wood-Block-Problem-Student PDF is included as a separate attachment and offers a sample of the type of material included in this learning module.
