In this lesson, provided by the Contextualize to Learn project at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, students interpret a graph (wire burn-off chart), convert wirefeed speeds into amperage using ratios, and setup the heat energy formula and evaluate Kilo Joules. Equations are solved by paying attention to order of operations.

The expected total time for the lesson is 1 hr 50 minutes. Lesson materials include a 10-page PDF lesson guide and an Excel document. The PDF includes prerequisite assumptions, notes, a suggested timeline, objectives and a problem situation. The Excel document includes the following sections: Intro, WFS-AMPS, Travel speed, Joules, Estimate new parameters, Area of flare bevel, Weld volume, Weld deposit, Cost, and Trig functions.
