Precision Agriculture- Introduction and Lesson 1 Materials

Lesson Description:

This lesson is the first of three in the Introduction to Agriculture unit of a precision agriculture education series provided by Northeast Community College. These lessons are intended to teach "... broad scale concepts of precision agriculture, the components that make it possible, how it can impact farm management decision making, and data usability." The following are objectives for the first lesson:

• Learn primary vocabulary of Precision Agriculture.
• Introduce the concept of Precision Agriculture.
• Learn a brief history of Precision Agriculture.
• Learn the broad framework showing how it works.
• Learn the concept of variability by viewing a yield map to show how it can show the different yield levels in a field.
• Learn the Goals of Precision Agriculture.

Lesson Contents:

Lesson materials include an educator guide, a vocabulary list and worksheet, two presentations, notes, and a quiz and answer key. Most materials are provided in Word and PDF formats.

The 20-page educator guide includes an introduction and the following sections: Precision Agriculture: What is it, Lesson Objectives, What is Precision Agriculture, Components of Precision Agriculture, Goal of Precision Agriculture, Why is Precision Ag Technologies and Management Used, and Additional Resources. 

For orientation purposes Precision Ag Unit and Lesson 1 Educator Guide.pdf is included as a separate attachment and offers a sample of the type of material included in this curriculum.
