These curriculum outlines provide information about the Biotechnology program at Salt Lake Community College (SLCC). This program prepares students for transferring to higher education and employment in the biotech industry. SLCC offers a Biotechnology Associate of Science degree and a Certificate of Proficiency. Classes are offered in a competency-based education format. The learning outcomes of completing the program include the following:

  • A general understanding of the biotechnology field, including applications of biotechnology and the role of regulations and quality in the biotechnology industry.
  • Technical and analytical skills that are applicable to the field of biotechnology.
  • A solid foundation of knowledge on which to further their education in the sciences.
  • Critical thinking skills used in applying the scientific method to problems.
  • Essential communication skills necessary in working with complex information and concepts. 

Two documents are included, a 6-page Associated Degree description and 2-page Certificate description. These documents provide information on each program track. Sections include Program Description, Career Opportunities, Transfer/Articulation, Estimated Time to Completion, Plan of Study 2019-2020, and more.
