Solar Design Using Helioscope

This collection from the Center for Renewable Energy Advanced Technological Education Resource Center (CREATE) is composed of teaching materials that highlight a lesson on the solar design software Helioscope. Helioscope uses a web based interface to create 3D models for shade analysis and helps users create professional proposals. The collection is composed of four documents and a video.

The four documents include student instructions, an instructor's guide, and two standards documents. The student instructions document provides steps for and questions about using the software HelioScope to model a solar PV system. The instructor's guide provides learning goals; a list of required materials, resources, and technology; steps for using the software; and answers to the student questions. The standards documents explore energy literacy principles and concepts, as well as next generation high school science standards.

In the video, Jennifer Clemons from Delaware Technical Community College highlights the different ways of using HelioScope in a classroom for solar shading analysis. Pricing and access information, solar job examples, curriculum development, steps for creating a HelioScope project, and Beta options are highlighted. The video recording runs 45:52 minutes in length.
