This video from InnovATEBIO provides three presentations about biomanufacturing. In the first presentation, Jan Chalupny talks about kits for teaching biomanufacturing concepts in high school. Chalupny describes the kits, their contents, and how they were developed. Challenges with implementing the kits, beta-testing results for the curriculum, and future plans are also explored. In the second presentation, James Hewlett explores how mushrooms can serve as a model system for biomanufacturing. Hewlett highlights a collaboration with Leep Foods, the use of fungi in biomanufacturing, the optimization of the expression and recovery of mushroom exopolysaccharides, upsteam and downstream methods, and results. Examples of biotechnology companies and products that use fungi are also provided. In the final presentation, Bruce Nash talks about a group at the University of Minnesota that is working to develop technology for cell-free engineering and biomanufacturing of phage. Nash describes the MyTXTL system and how it applies to the biomanufacturing of phage. Educational applications are also explored. The video recording runs 59:33 minutes in length.
