The Landscape of Career and Technical Education Faculty Data Use for Decision-Making and Program Improvement in National Science Foundation–Advanced Technical Education Programs in Washington State

This 16-page study, published by the University of Washington, provides an overview of the access and use by career and technician education (CTE) faculty of student-level data for driving program improvement, with a particular focus on Advanced Technological Education (ATE) grant-funded programs. Based on interviews with partner colleges, expert panels representing CTE programs, and a document review of ATE programs, the study presents a variety of ways that faculty have used student-level data, along with common constraints that create difficulty in access and use of this data. Among the constraints on data access, the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic are discussed in detail. Additionally, the study contains a literature review on the topic of data usage by CTE faculty.
