Advances in Tissue Engineering, Bioprinting, and Body-on-a-chip Technologies

This webinar, provided by the Wake Forest University School of Medicine, focuses on developments in three areas of regenerative medicine: tissue engineering, bioprinting, and body-on-a-chip technologies. First, Tracy Criswell, associate professor at the Wake Forest School of Regenerative Medicine (WFIRM), provides a brief introduction to tissue engineering and the field of regenerative medicine, along with the state of the field in May, 2023. Next, Sean Murphy, associate professor at WFIRM, discusses 3D bioprinting and its applications for airway tissue transplantation, going over the process of developing a 3D bioprinted trachea. Finally, Thomas Shupe, associate professor at WFIRM, discusses the development of microengineered organ tissue equivalents (OTE), which allow for the testing of drugs and toxins without using animal models or 2D cell cultures.
