Learning Activities 6.1 - 6.2: Building and Pumping Down a Rough Vacuum System

This 11-page learning activity is from the Introduction to Vacuum Technology Student and Instructor Laboratory Manuals that accompany the Introduction to Vacuum Technology E-Book published by Erie Community College. The activity has students build a rough vacuum system from a schematic, apply proper cleanliness techniques during assembly of system components, practice proper pump-down procedures, evaluate pump-down times for multiple cycles of system operation, and follow proper storage procedures for the system.

A summary of learning activities, learning objectives, a suggested pre-lab assignment, theoretical background, the activity procedure, and more are included. Student learning outcomes include:

  1. Follow vacuum cleanliness procedures when handling vacuum system components.
  2. Identify vacuum system components.
  3. Build a rough vacuum system form a system schematic.
  4. Pump-down a rough vacuum system.
  5. Follow proper vacuum system storage procedures.

The E-book, laboratory manuals, other learning activities, and related videos are available to view separately.
