C-TEACH Academy: Standardization of NaOH & Introduction to Quality Control Laboratory Experiment

This professional development activity, from Cape Fear Community College, introduces STEM educators to standardization titration. After making a sodium hydroxide solution, the base will be standardized with potassium hydrogen phthalate (KHP) in order to determine its true concentration. An introduction to quality control and statistics will be reviewed during the activity. Completing this laboratory exercise will allow participants to ensure that they are properly making a solution and performing the standardization process correctly. A spreadsheet is also included, allowing an instructor to input the participant's laboratory data to determine if their accuracy and precision meets industry standards.
