Underwater Remotely Operated Vehicles (UWROV): Technical Report
This 24-page report, provided by the University of Washington, describes the design and construction of the underwater remotely operated vehicle (ROV) created by the Underwater Remotely Operated Vehicles (UWROV) team for the Explorer Class of the 2023 MATE ROV competition. MATE ROV is a global competition that challenges STEM students to build underwater ROVs to complete challenges. The competition is split into the following classes based on build complexity: Explorer, Ranger, Pioneer, Navigator, and Scout.
The report begins with an abstract introducing UWROV and their ROV followed by a discussion of project management. Next, the report provides an overview of the construction of the team's ROV, highlighting the engineering design rationale, systems approach, vehicle structures, vehicle systems, control and electrical systems, and more. Also covered is equipment safety, operational safety, safety procedures, testing and troubleshooting, accounting, acknowledgments, and references. A systems integration design (SID) and the following appendices are included: Safety Checklists, Lab Safety Policy, and Cost Accounting.
Manuals for each competition class and technical reports from other teams are available to view separately.
