Building Performance Standards: Climate Challenge and Navigating Decarbonization for Building Owners

In this video, provided by the Building Efficiency for a Sustainable Tomorrow (BEST) Center, Joshua Kace and Nora Hart from the Lawrence Berkley National Lab discuss two initiatives to decarbonize buildings: building performance standards (BPS) policies and the Better Climate Challenge (BCC). Kace provides a primer on BPS policies, their utility, and the their adoption across the United States. Hart covers the BCC, a program ran by the United States Department of energy that partners with organizations to decarbonize buildings. BPS and BCC are then compared as decarbonization strategies along with a discussion of the challenges in decarbonizing existing commercial buildings.
