InnovATEBIO HS Biotech Summer Series: Version 1 Course
This course, published by InnovATEBIO, is designed to teach biotechnology concepts during the timeframe of a summer semester through online self-study modules. Along with the self-study modules, the course is intended to have occasional supplemental live sessions. The five modules include student instructions, quizzes, self-study tools, discussion forums, presentation slides, and labs. Included are virtual and at-home labs. At-home labs require materials and sometimes have live session components. Modules cover the following topics:
- Module 1: safety, equipment and validation, science lab math, DNA extraction
- Module 2: gel electrophoresis, DNA fingerprinting (restriction analysis), Polymerase chain reaction (PCR)
- Module 3: aseptic technique, bacterial transformation, protein (GFP) purification, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE), clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR) gene editing
- Module 4: DNA Barcoding, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), western blotting, and scientific literacy and student research
- Module 5 : Programmable logic controller (PLC)
