STEM Speaker Series Chemistry Workshop

This idea-generating workshop is designed to show educators new ways to make teaching math and core science principles more exciting and accessible to students. Get SMART! Impact Workshop

The new 2.5-day "Get SMART!" Impact Workshops provides participants with core concepts and materials needed to develop or expand academic courses and pathways that will enable students to enter the maritime and transportation industry which is critical to our nation's economy and security. You will also receive SMART products including lessons, toolkits, "Make the SMART Choice!" video series and new SMART Maritime and Transportation Career Guide. Lastly, you will meet key industry players in your region to help support your programs and learn about registered apprenticeship programs, internships and college programs for students in your area.

2015 SNO Conference

This year's SNO conference sessions will be organized around selected "systems", e.g. air-water systems. Sessions will be populated with talks on applications, effects and implications, analytical methods, and lifecycle aspects of nanomaterials within each system. The aims are to identity where nanomaterials and nanotechnology can improve the sustainability of each system and to foster integration of knowledge between applications and implications within each system. We also aim to encourage more papers on the applications of nanomaterials. Papers on lifecycle aspects of nanomaterials within each system or across systems is encouraged. New developments in analytical methods and instrumentation are also encouraged. Topics from prior conferences will be regrouped under an appropriate system.

The purpose of New York's B-WET Program is to help establish watershed education in schools throughout the Susquehanna Region. The New York Geographic Alliance will be working with schools and teachers to help them with lessons, materials, and connections to environmental organizations. This workshop will concentrate on looking at local communities in depth, using topographic maps and aerial imagery. Participants at the Mapping and Geospatial Workshop will receive maps and imagery to take back to their schools. Much of the day will be devoted to online resources - using ArcGIS Online to create maps, and accessing high-quality imagery from Pictometry, Inc. The ultimate goal of this PD is to prepare teachers for outdoor experiences with their students. They need to use the mapping resources to decide on places in their part of the watershed that merit additional study.

Do You Know What's Made in Florida?

Did you know that myriad products are manufactured in Florida? From Airplanes to Zener diodes, many goods are made in high-tech businesses throughout the state. These businesses employ individuals from a wide variety of STEM and Business fields. This workshop is appropriate for 6-12 educators in a variety of content areas, including STEM, CTE, and Social Studies–or anyone interested in learning more about these innovative careers. After the movie, Dr. Marilyn Barger of the Florida Advanced Technological Education Center (FLATE) will present some excellent Florida Standards-based lessons aligned to the Made in Florida movie. In addition, we are pleased to feature Scientific League, who will provide insights into the making of the film.

Teachers who attend the workshop will receive a Made in Florida video and Teacher’s Guide with lessons aligned to Florida Standards.
