In this workshop, students will be introduced to the basics of desktop 3d printing. The course will start by providing an overview of 3d printing technologies before focusing on Fused Filament Fabrication/Fused Deposition Modeling (FFF/FDM). Students will then be guided through best practices in downloading a 3d model, processing it through a slicer, and starting a print job on the IDL 3D printer. While the print is underway, students will be introduced to a web browser based Computer Aided Design (CAD) program, TinkerCAD. Students will be encouraged to find downloadable models to make a mash-up OR design their own object for 3D Printing.

In-person hands-on training will be taught by NNF Specialists from November 8-10 in the Voelte-Keegan Nanoscience Center, located on the City Campus at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (16th and W Streets). During this time, the program will train new users in the technical aspects of any two pieces of equipment of their choice. Participants will have the opportunity to learn materials analysis, advanced materials characterization, fabrication of nanostructured materials, electronic devices, structural components, and advances in nanotechnology. Attendees will also have the opportunity to get first-hand knowledge of the potential benefits to their research and development activities and how to become users of the facilities.
Limited space is available for in-person training in Lincoln, so complete the registration by Wednesday, November 1. Free lodging at a local hotel for 1-2 nights and some meals are provided for registered participants only. 2021 and 2022 participants are not eligible to attend this course again. The participant should be willing to share hotel accommodations with another person.

This workshop will look at assistive technology to help with a range of writing skill levels. We'll see apps to help with different stages from drafting to revising along with learning the basics and various digital and voice options.
It is estimated that 85 percent of all jobs that will exist in 2030 have yet to be invented. Couple this with a recent survey that states nearly 50 percent of millennials do not believe college is worth it. For those who do enroll, nearly half drop out within their first year of studies and only 10 to 12 percent of students of color will persist to graduation. At the onset of the fourth industrial revolution, how can community college leaders redesign their services to help students find their personalized pathway, create a sense of belonging, and build equitable bridges to social and economic mobility? Participants learn new transformative strategies they might consider for their own institution based upon work conducted at Tallahassee Community College through the Culture of CARE initiative.
