Explore laser cutting and jewelry making in this three hour workshop! It will begin by covering laser cutting basics. Then it will explore jewelry making techniques to add jump rings and hardware to create earrings from laser cut acrylic pieces. Students will leave with at least three pairs of earrings. Findings will be sterling silver.

All materials and equipment will be included in the cost. This class is intended for participants 16 years of age or older. If under 18, the student will receive a copy of the liability form that a parent or guardian is required to sign prior to starting the class.

In this workshop, students will be introduced to the basics of desktop 3d printing. The course will start by providing an overview of 3d printing technologies before focusing on Fused Filament Fabrication/Fused Deposition Modeling (FFF/FDM). Students will then be guided through best practices in downloading a 3d model, processing it through a slicer, and starting a print job on the IDL 3D printer. While the print is underway, students will be introduced to a web browser based Computer Aided Design (CAD) program, TinkerCAD. Students will be encouraged to find downloadable models to make a mash-up OR design their own object for 3D Printing.

All materials and equipment use will be included in the cost. This class is intended for participants 16 years of age or older. If under 18, the student will receive a copy of the liability form that a parent or guardian is required to sign prior to starting the class.

Accessing Higher Ground focuses on the implementation and benefits of:

• Accessible media, Universal Design and Assistive Technology in the university, business and public setting;
• Legal and policy issues, including ADA and 508 compliance;
• The creation of accessible media and information resources, including Web pages and library resources.

In-person hands-on training will be taught by NNF Specialists from November 8-10 in the Voelte-Keegan Nanoscience Center, located on the City Campus at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (16th and W Streets). During this time, the program will train new users in the technical aspects of any two pieces of equipment of their choice. Participants will have the opportunity to learn materials analysis, advanced materials characterization, fabrication of nanostructured materials, electronic devices, structural components, and advances in nanotechnology. Attendees will also have the opportunity to get first-hand knowledge of the potential benefits to their research and development activities and how to become users of the facilities.

Limited space is available for in-person training in Lincoln, so complete the registration by Wednesday, November 1. Free lodging at a local hotel for 1-2 nights and some meals are provided for registered participants only. 2021 and 2022 participants are not eligible to attend this course again. The participant should be willing to share hotel accommodations with another person.

The REC Foundation Aerial Drone Competition prepares our youth for these vocations now and in the future by strengthening skills they will rely on, both in the field and around the workplace. The ASM Conference for Undergraduate Educators (ASMCUE) is driven by, for and with the community. After 3 years of virtual meetings, 2023 ASMCUE will be co-located with Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minoritized Scientists (ABRCMS) in Phoenix, Ariz. The ASMCUE conference will take place over a 3-day period and is expected to bring together educators from all over the world for an immersive experience. Attendees will gather to learn classroom strategies, hear biology education research updates and meet new colleagues who teach the same classes.

Rather than a theme for ASMCUE content this year, the ASMCUE Planning Committee established a “subtitle” that welcomes attendees back to the in-person experience for the celebration of the 30th Anniversary of ASMCUE: Gap Junctions: Reconnecting Our Community for Diffusion of Ideas. This name reflects the mission, experience and emotions of ASMCUE.

Cybersecurity Capabilities and Careers Symposia (3CS) sessions explore or document innovative ideas, evidence-based practices, and demonstration of techniques and technologies for raising the capability maturity of the cybersecurity workforce.  Proposers of sessions for upcoming regional or national 3CS are encouraged to submit a brief abstract of their session idea. The lead author of an accepted session proposal will receive a $200 participation stipend and a travel stipend of up to $550 based on your distance from the workshop venue. In a world driven by data, the power of evaluation comes from our ability to weave data points into a story that meaningfully answers our project’s questions. The interpretation of evaluation findings is a crucial step in the evaluation process that turns analyzed data into useful evaluative conclusions. The process of interpretations extracts valuable insights that can help project staff understand project impact and make informed decisions.  In this webinar, presenters will focus on practical strategies to interpret evaluation findings that inform meaningful project improvements and assess overall effectiveness. These strategies include comparative analysis against historical or baseline data, benchmarking against national datasets, and participatory sense-making sessions. This webinar is for project leaders and staff who are looking to make the most out of their project evaluations and evaluators who are looking to increase the transparency and utility of their evaluation conclusions.

This workshop will look at assistive technology to help with a range of writing skill levels. We'll see apps to help with different stages from drafting to revising along with learning the basics and various digital and voice options.

It is estimated that 85 percent of all jobs that will exist in 2030 have yet to be invented. Couple this with a recent survey that states nearly 50 percent of millennials do not believe college is worth it. For those who do enroll, nearly half drop out within their first year of studies and only 10 to 12 percent of students of color will persist to graduation. At the onset of the fourth industrial revolution, how can community college leaders redesign their services to help students find their personalized pathway, create a sense of belonging, and build equitable bridges to social and economic mobility? Participants learn new transformative strategies they might consider for their own institution based upon work conducted at Tallahassee Community College through the Culture of CARE initiative.

By the end of this workshop, participants know or will be able to:

• Identify the core tenets of the advent of the fourth industrial revolution as it relates to education's equity imperative, the future of work, and the future of learning.
• Explore trends happening in higher education post-pandemic and evaluate the role of community colleges within this arena.
• Identify strategies to take back to their campus.

Many employers believe soft skills are just as important, if not more so, than hard skills. As an educator, how can you teach soft skills to college students? During this workshop, participants learn about the necessary soft skills most employers desire. Participants leave with a set of strategies they can use to help their students develop soft skills that are critical for future success.

By the end of this workshop, participants know or will be able to:

• Know the difference between soft and hard skills.
• Summarize common skills desired by employers.
• Describe ways to help students improve their soft skills.

DMC is the nation’s annual forum for enhancing and leveraging the efforts of engineers, managers, technology leaders, scientists, and policy makers across the defense manufacturing industrial base. Leaders and manufacturing subject matter experts from government, industry, and academia exchange information and perspectives on defense manufacturing policies, strategic direction, best practices, funding opportunities, and the latest manufacturing innovations that will benefit our warfighters.

Attendees range from CEO- and Flag Officer/SES-level to working-level manufacturing-oriented engineers, scientists, and business practice/policy makers and include technology implementers, system designers and representatives of the warfighters. Typical attendance is over 1,000 primarily government and industry participant with a smaller complement from academia.
