This 5 day class will prepare teachers to instruct students using the CCNA 1 Curriculum. The course will consist of some lecture but will primarily consist of lab exercises.  The lecture will provide instruction on the content as well as tips to help instruct future students.  The labs are intended to provide hands on exercises to reinforce the topic as well as provide the student with an opportunity to see and touch the technology described. Attendees will have opportunity to gain certification as a Cisco Certified System Instructor (CCSI) for

Prerequisite:  Working knowledge of computers.

Instructor:  Brent Sieling is an Instructor for the 2-year Network Specialist Associate Degree at Madison College. He has been teaching networking classes full-time since January of 2006 and part-time for three semesters prior to that. He is the lead contact for the Academy Support Center and Instructor Training Center at Madison College’s Cisco Networking Academy, providing support to over 80 high schools and technical colleges in the State of Wisconsin. Brent previously worked as a network specialist at the Madison Metropolitan School District, where he managed a network of over 50 schools. Brent currently holds the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), CCNA Voice, and CCNA Security certifications, and is the author of the Cisco Press CCNA Voice lab book. He completed the Cisco Academy Instructor Trainer Qualification (ITQ) process to become an Academy Instructor Trainer. Brent has been a regular presenter at the Cisco Academy Conferences.

The Ethical Hacking Course is an advanced course that covers many of the common attacks used by hackers to exploit systems, such as SQL injection, spear phishing and buffer overflows. This course will immerse you into the Hacker Mindset so that you will be able to defend against future attacks. The security mindset in any organization must not be limited to the silos of a certain vendor, technologies or pieces of equipment. Live demonstration of these techniques shows you how to create, pack, and deploy malware in a realistic network environment. Attendees of this workshop will better understand the hacker's perspective and methodology.

Arizona Project WET in collaboration with Marine Advanced Technology Education (MATE) is providing this workshop for 5th-12th grade educators!

Using MATE & APW materials:

• Investigate the Central AZ Project delivery system
• Understand how ROVs are used in the water industry
• Engage in the engineering design, building, and testing of marine ROVs
• Develop an understanding of buoyancy, hydrodynamics, forces, energy, electrical circuitry, wiring, soldering, and control systems

Learn how to teach solar principles in effective, engaging ways in the classroom. ATE members are invited to attend the fifth annual STEM Educator Solar Institute. Participants will use tools of the trade to install and commission a residential size solar photovoltaic array, review and practice necessary safety measures and electrical principles, and perform ready to use hands-on classroom lab activities that will enable students to bring solar energy to life in the classroom.

This class provides ICT faculty with the widest spectrum of topics starting from Classic Data Center to IT-as-a-Service. It is a “technology-based� course covering cloud deployment and service models, cloud infrastructure, and the key considerations in migrating to cloud computing. The CIS course provides the required technology essentials across all domains—including server, storage, networking, applications, and databases—to help develop a strong understanding of virtualization and cloud computing technologies. This 4-day program is recommended for community colleges that are serious about broadening participation in their institution's STEM programs where women are underrepresented and are ready to do so in 1-years' time. During this 4-day online boot camp, participants will learn key factors for female recruitment, strategies to keep STEM students on course and improve graduation rates, and will address the STEM challenge: appeal to women who aren't excited about STEM. Participants will take away an easy to implement recruitment plan and a retention plan. The workshop runs July 11-12 and 18-19.

1. An easy-to-implement Recruitment Plan to increase the number of women in your STEM/CTE classrooms.
2. A Retention Plan for your school to increase the completion rate of your female (and male students), starting this semester.

This is an 8-hour course available for free through the Cisco Networking Academy. The course presents the fundamental concepts of cybersecurity and information assurance. The class includes online content, student assessment, lab activities and an online grading system. The class is intended to be used in both k12 and community college programs.

The AACC Presidents Academy Summer Institute (PASI) is an annual professional development program for CEOs and presidents of member community colleges, providing intensive focus on current challenges, emerging trends, and opportunities unique to that position.

The three-day institute focuses on issues of critical importance to success in the role of the community college president, providing a mix of content experts and interaction around related case studies that result in the development/acquisition of ready-to-use skill sets that participants can apply back at their respective campuses. The institute also provides opportunities for newer presidents to develop mentor-mentee relationships with more seasoned presidents, focusing on immediate challenges and opportunities that these presidents are facing on their campuses.

The 2019 Summer Institutes are open to all STEM subject area educators, primarily focused in the 9-12 High school grade levels, community college levels, and freshman/sophomore university instruction. This project is designed to help faculty increase student interest and engagement in the study and learning of STEM principles, practices, and careers through guitar design and building. As a participant, you will receive a $300 stipend, a completed guitar, and a support package at the institute.

This workshop will have participants using drones for data capture and for the derivation of 3D models, designing and publishing local projects using ArcGIS Online, creating and developing StoryMaps, performing spatial analysis using ArcGIS Online, and exploring data capture apps such as Survey123. As part of this workshop, participants will develop a lesson or exercise that can be used in one of their courses.

The CISSP certification is one of the most recognized certification in the business community. This course provides all student materials, flash cards and the CISSP CBK. As an (ISC)2 Global Academic Program (GAP) Member, CSSIA will be offering the CISSP - Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) training. This training course will review and refresh your information security knowledge and help identify areas you may need to study for the CISSP exam. The CISSP exam tests one's competence in the ten CISSP domains of the (ISC)2 CBK, which cover critical topics in security today, including risk management, cloud computing, mobile security, application development security and more; it is one of the most sought-after certifications in today's information security industry. Instruction will also utilize labs developed that align with the NSA Knowledge Units.

In this workshop, participants will be introduced to experiments and techniques used in the biopharmaceutical industry to prevent microbial contamination of products, and biochemical assays that test for identity, purity and potency of the drug substance and product. Microbiological QC activities will include endotoxin testing, molecular and biochemical approaches to microbe detection and identification, and environmental monitoring. Biochemical QC techniques will focus on monoclonal antibody drug substance analysis and include aggregate testing by HPLC analysis, identity and concentration determination by ELISA and purity determination by SDS PAGE. In both the microbiological and biochemical sessions, techniques ranging from basic activities through advanced laboratory exercises will be performed in order to accommodate all levels of course and program development of the participating instructors.

During this three day seminar participants will be introduced to spatial technologies concepts. Participants will also learn how to take advantage of existing resources to enhance the classroom, learn about types of data and how to use them in GIS, use basic analysis functions to encourage critical thinking, and build and share interactive maps and mapping applications. This training is free and a limited number of stipends are available. Participants may earn up to 18 PD hours in ADE FOCUS area 8.02.09 (Next generation learning/integrated technology).

This free course is designed for EAST facilitators that want to learn enough about GIS to facilitate some quality projects. It is not designed for advanced users. The morning session will be devoted to lessons relating to the geography of the Erie Canal and New York waterways. There will be activities appropriate to all grade levels, relating to both social studies and science. It will feature mapping activities, water-quality testing, and the GIANT Map of New York (17 by 21 feet!).  Participants will receive NYGA's lesson booklets for both elementary and secondary levels. There will be a catered luncheon after the AM sessions.

Join the organization to learn all about underwater robots or ROVs (remotely operated vehicles), and how ROVs are used to explore, research, and work in ocean waters. In this multi-day workshop, you will spend time aboard DISL's research vessels and see a research ROV in operation and talk with scientists who use ROVs in their research. You will build a fully functional PufferFish ROV from the circuit board up step by step and explore several relevant classroom activities that can get your students building, learning and developing skills. Given the complexity of the building task, the organization heartily suggests that teachers wanting to participate bring a partner teacher with them.

Cost: $100 registration fee, refundable upon completion of the workshop (workshop tuition, meals, and housing are FREE) Participants are required to purchase their own ROV kit (one per pair) prior to the workshop. 

Faculty should have the following to be considered as a participant:

• Teach at a NATEF accredited post-secondary institution
• Teach Automotive Technology at a NATEF/ASE Education Foundation post-secondary institution (community college, technical college or university).
• Have at least two years of experience teaching automotive technology
• Agree to integrate new concepts related to automated and connected technologies into their curricula as a result of the professional development activities
• Participate in follow-up activities to improve student learning, including online discussions with other participants and sharing of materials via the website
• Agree to report demographics and impact data regarding the effects of secondary school outreach activities and the use of new materials for project reports
• Participate in assessments of the project conducted by the external evaluator
• Must attend all day all five days to be eligible for stipend

Participants in this workshop will learn how to work with ArcGIS Online, Story-Maps, mobile data collection apps such as Collector for ArcGIS and Survey123, and other geospatial resources. As part of this workshop, participants will develop a lesson or exercise that can be used in one of their courses.

At the Institute, you’ll use tools of the trade to install and commission a residential size solar photovoltaic array. Learn about wind turbines and have the opportunity to visit the campus large-scale wind turbine! You’ll review and practice necessary safety measures and electrical principles. Finally, you’ll perform (and take with you) ready-to-use hands-on classroom lab activities that will enable you to bring renewable energy to life in your classroom.

A National Science Foundation Grant (NSF, DUE 1801078) to conduct an American Welding Society (AWS) SENSE QC-10 Welding Certification Teacher Workshop. We will go over the certification process, school registration process, and each teacher will earn QC-10 certification upon successful completion. Opportunity will also be given for breakout sessions to work on implementation scenarios for each respective school program. Core elements of certification modules will be emphasized as well as teaching practices to ensure student success. Articulation pathways will also be highlighted for students next steps to advanced welder certification, or AWS QC-11 offered at Monroe County Community College.

This workshop will focus on how to get started with UAVs, will prepare participants to take the FAA Part 107 Certification, introduce the legal aspects of UAVs, and provide participants hands on experience working with UAVs.

The Introductions to Nanotechnology and Nanotechnology Curriculum Materials 1 and 2 workshops that were held this spring gave participant educators the opportunity to remotely learn about nanotechnology workforce education from the NPDP Team using a live-stream technology approach. The NPDP Team is now opening up applications to the next phase of training, hands-on face to face laboratory experiences entitled NPDP Hands-On-Site Workshops. The purpose of these workshops is to enable educators who attend these experiences to enhance their understanding of this technology and further understand the laboratory experiences that NPDP partners are using within their nanotechnology workforce programs, leading to implementation of nanotechnology classroom experiences, nanotechnology courses or perhaps nanotechnology workforce programs at their home institutions.

More than 350 microbiology and biology educators will gather at the ASM Conference for Undergraduate Educators (ASMCUE) for an engaging four-day conference. The conference program includes plenary, concurrent, poster, and exhibit sessions. Participants engage in formal and informal small group discussions between colleagues all focused on the same goal: to improve teaching and learning in the biological sciences.
