Program Description:

River Valley Community College, in association with Program Development in Cybersecurity with Focus on Business and Healthcare Concepts, has developed a 4-semester program to prepare students to working the Information Assurance (IA) field with a focus on Cybersecurity and Healthcare IT. Courses are intended to prepare students for assuring confidentiality, integrity and availability of IT systems and networks in healthcare settings, where scheduling, storage of images, filling prescriptions, billing and more are handled and stored using information technology.

Course Description:

This Course from River Valley Community College center focuses on Electronic Medical Record System (EMRS) and the Information Assurance Certification and Accreditation Process (IACAP), and asks students to consider how electronic medical records data is stored by software, how to assess entire healthcare IT systems, and how to ensure that systems are hardened against attack, while still meeting industry accreditation and certification standards. In completing the course, students will be able to: 1) Identify the components of the Electronic Medical Record System (EMRS) and how they integrate into the computer network, 2) Install, patch, update and upgrade and EMRS, 3) Manage users within the EMRS, 4) Manage roles and responsibilities within the EMRS, 5) Input data into the EMRS, 6) Create reports and track anonymous patient data, 7) Provide end user support with using the EMRS, 8) Evaluate a Healthcare organization’s Information Assurance Certification and Accreditation Process (IACAP) posture, 9) Implement a phased approach in conducting IACAP 10) Understand and evaluate the roles and responsibilities of a Healthcare organization in their IACAP program, and 11) Provide a comprehensive IACAP report identifying security vulnerabilities and providing baseline corrective actions.

Course Contents:
