Maritime Career Exploration Unit

These two documents, provided by the Southeast Maritime and Transportation Center, outline a maritime career exploration unit for high school level students. This unit, designed to take place over the course of three class periods, was authored by Jeannette Wangler, MBA, an alumni of the 2015 SMART Maritime and Transportation Institute. The first document, "Get SMART About Your Future," provides a unit plan, a student evaluation rubric, and a student worksheet. The other document provides a slide deck that accompanies this unit. During this unit, high school students "conduct detailed research into a career in one of the 4 main [maritime] industry sectors," which include Shipbuilding/Ship Repair; Sea-Going/Vessel Operations; Ports Operations/Port-Based Logistics; and Pleasurecraft and Marinas.
