This module, provided by the Center for Nanotechnology Education (Nano-Link), introduces students to engineering controls for nanomaterials. This module was developed in collaboration with the Midwest Emerging Technologies Public Health and Safety Training (METPHAST) Program. Included in the module is a video that runs 43:12 minutes, a video that runs 12:57 minutes, a hands-on activity entitled Visualization of Local Exhaust Ventilation Airflows, and presentation slides. The learning objectives for this module are as follows:

  • Describe how engineering fits within the broader hierarchy of controls
  • Understand operating principles of different types of engineering controls
  • Relate engineering controls to specific nanotechnology processes
  • Identify ways to evaluate engineering controls

Users must create a free account in order to access all of the materials.
