Module Description:

This module was created by the Center for Nanotechnology Education (Nano-Link) and covers dye-sensitized solar cells (DSC). "This device is essentially a photo-electrochemical cell, which means that a photo-induced chemical reaction causes electrons to travel from one material to another." This module includes an activity that has students construct a DSC. The learning outcomes of the module are:

  1. Describe how a dye-sensitized solar cell works
  2. Understand the benefits of TiO2 as a solar cell constituent
  3. Fabricate a simple DSC capable of converting sunlight into electricity

Module Contents:

Module contents include a 9-page lesson guide and a PowerPoint presentation. The guide provides background information on dye-sensitized solar cells, an activity, discussions questions, and more. The PowerPoint presentation also includes background information.

Module materials are also included in Spanish.

For orientation purposes Dye-SensitizedSolarCells Module - Nano-Link.pdf is included as a separate attachment and offers a sample of the type of material included in this module.

Below is a list of the files contained within the .zip attachments. The size of each file is included in parenthesis.
