This webinar, provided by the Centers Collaborative for Technical Assistance, addresses Prior Learning Assessments (PLAs) and how colleges can use PLAs to assign academic credit for "skills an individual has gained outside the classroom or from non-college instructional programs including employment, military training, travel, hobbies, and sometimes civic activities and volunteer services." This webinar was presented on June 15, 2017. The presenters were Rick Roberts, President and Assistant Director of the South Carolina ATE; Serita Acker, Executive Director of Programs for Educational Enrichment & Retention (PEER) and Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) at Clemson University; and Donald McCoy, consultant for K-to-College STEM Education. Topics addressed in this webinar include national and local evaluation organizations, standard exams, credit for military experience, and portfolio evaluation. In addition, Serita Acker provides an overview of the the PEER and WISE programs at Clemson University's College of Engineering, Computing, and Applied Sciences. Finally, Donald McCoy discusses some of the advantages of PLA recruitment from an industry perspectives.
