Collection Description:
This collection is provided by Trident Technical College and includes OpenStack administration modules and some of the software needed to run OpenStack on a VMware Workstation. During the modules students are given different scenarios that involve working at CLOUDTech, a cloud computing consulting firm. In these scenarios students work in the Cloud hosting department that "provides multiple platform and vendor Cloud hosting services for Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), Software as a Service (SaaS) and many others as a service offerings." During these modules, students "will perform hands-on exercises to learn about the OpenStack Cloud implementation CLOUDTech uses to host customer Cloud environments."

Contents Description:

The 1-page OpenStack Table of Contents file includes a list of the files included in the OpenStack Part One .zip attachment and the OpenStack Workstation OVA files included in this collection. The VMware Workstation listed in this document needs to be downloaded separately.

The readme.docx file is a 1-page document of instructor notes that includes additional information about the software and modules used in OpenStack Cloud Computing Part 1 curriculum.

This collection includes a number of .zip attachments. OpenStack Part One zipped includes lab documents and Openstack on VMware Workstation 12.5 instructions. "These instructions will guide the student through deploying and configuring OpenStack Virtual Machines in VMware Workstation 12.5." OpenStack supplemental instructions and a Split Zipped files document is also included. The Split Zipped document provides instructions for opening the Ova .zip files.

The nine laboratory module documents include a total of 24 laboratory exercises. Each module includes the following sections: Attributes, Contents, Introduction, Module Objectives, Prepare the OpenStack virtual machines, Lab Scenario and Settings, Run the Lab setup script, Access the OpenStack Dashboard, Run the grade script, lab specific sections, and more. Examples of the lab exercises provided include Connect to the OpenStack Dashboard, Navigate the OpenStackDashboard, Manage OpenStack Projects, Add and Configure a Public Network, Add and Configure a Router, Launch a CentOS 7 Instance, and many more.

Other .zip attachments include CentOS-7-x86_64-DVD-1708.zip and two Ova zipped files. Ovas include Openstack_Mitaka_WS and Openstack_WS_client2_v2. CentOS-7-x86_64-DVD-1708.zip is used during module 8 where students "... launch a CentOS 7 instance with a customization script and verify the web server function from a Linux VM." The Mitaka Ova file is split into 5 .zip attachments and the WS_client Ova is split into 7 .zip attachments.

For orientation purposes the Openstack Module 1 WS 15 Aug.pdf and the Openstack WS Instructions v3.pdf are included as separate attachments and offer a sample of the type of material included in this collection.
